FTP is an abbreviation for File Transfer Protocol – a very popular method of exchanging files between a home PC and a web server. Using an FTP client program like CuteFTP or FileZilla, you can establish a connection to the server and view its content in one pane, while the files on your PC will be shown in another pane within the main program window. All you will have to do to send files or whole directories in either direction is to mark them and then to drag them from one pane to the other. File Transfer Protocol is used by lots of users because you can set up different FTP accounts and each one can be limited to connect to just one single folder on the server, so a web designer, for example, can do their task without accessing any other content in the hosting account. In addition, the presence of different FTP accounts will also allow you to build numerous sites with web design apps like Dreamweaver or FrontPage and to upload them to their respective folders on the server.
